SAPPE CEO Piyajit Ruckariyapong wins UN Women 2024 Thailand WEPs award for commitment to gender equality

Sappe Public Company Limited (SAPPE) Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Piyajit Ruckariyapong, won the second runner-up prize in Leadership Commitment category from the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) Awards ceremony. This category award recognizes the organization leaders, who play important parts in establishing strong commitment, progressive policy, regulations or guidelines to promote gender equality in the workplace, marketplace or community. The awards are also given to the company leaders with roles and responsibilities in promoting gender equality within the organizations and demonstrating a commitment to recognizing the roles of all genders in public.  

To uphold these equality guidelines, Ms. Piyajit manages the company in accordance with all sustainable dimensions, providing support both within the organization and throughout the value chain. The SAPPE CEO believes that enhancing the business growth can contribute to building a better society, reflecting in the company’s determination “We better people’s lives through our innovative spirit”. This mission underscores SAPPE’s commitment to all stakeholders.

The 2024 WEPs Awards ceremony was organized by UN Women and supported by the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), in collaboration with local key women’s economic empowerment drivers including Advantage Austria Bangkok, Thai E-Commerce Association, Thai Listed Companies Association, the Office of SMEs Promotion, the Securities and Exchange Commission Thailand, the Stock Exchange of Thailand and UN Global Compact Network Thailand. The bi-annual awards were given to 18 businesses, which submitted their accomplishments and outstanding operations in gender equality promotion across the value chain. In 2024, the UN Women received 64 applications from the businesses nationwide, ranging from major corporations to small-to-medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)

Regional Director of UN Women Asia and the Pacific and UN Women Representative to Thailand, Christine Arab, said “The WEPs Awards are not just recognition—they are a catalyst, inspiring business partners, suppliers, employees, customers, and future entrepreneurs to drive innovation and resilience, fueling sustainable economic growth for Thailand and beyond. Thailand’s level of women in management and women CEOs exceeds the global and national averages and this is reflective of the commitment of the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand and private sector leaders to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment.”

The Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) network gathers more than 10,000 companies around the world, bringing guidelines and principles of women empowerment to apply in the workplace, marketplace and community. Over 150 companies of all sizes in Thailand have joined this business network to enhance equal opportunities, foster partnership and discover innovative solutions. Their collective efforts aim to drive progress in gender equality, elevate corporate responsibility and promote sustainable socio-economic growth throughout Thailand and the Asia-Pacific region.
